We had a few problems the first week as the house we were supposed to be renting ended up not being suitable for all 5 of us. We were now homeless. We stayed in the Bastion Hotel for 4 days until we sorted another place to live. The next problem was the minor. Ian and I decided to switch minors as we felt the Game Design minor was very advanced. We would not have felt comfortable continuing on in it. After speaking to Sylvia about the other minors we decided on Concept Design. Tom and Marie had also changed to Concept design so it was now the four of us.
Concept Design is very different to the rest of the minors and also very different to the way we are taught at home. There is a lot of freedom to work on any project you want. Our tutor, Michele, sat us down and explained how the minor works and was really trying to get us thinking outside the box and try something different to what we had been doing at home. The students in the minor were very receptive of us and went out of their way to make us feel at home.
We were invited to a conference about Invisible Learning which ran for 2 days. It had been organised by a group of students in Concept design. At the moment we are brainstorming to come up with an idea for a project. Our tutor told us not to rush into a project and to give it much thought.
So that's it so far. The next few weeks will be interesting as we start on our project and get down to work.
